Massive Website Update

I've been neglecting my website for my blog, so today I did a really big update. Some of the new stuff includes:
  • New writing tips
  • New marketing tips
  • Updated appearances
  • New pictures
  • New downloads
  • New links
  • Uncut article After the Book Comes Out (the follow up to After the Big Sale)
  • Uncut tour journal
  • Updated content on the Super Secret page

What? You don't know what the Super Secret page is? This is a hidden webpage on my site that has cool free stuff, scandalous content, and several surprises. Instructions on how to find it are on my homepage, www.jakonrath.com.

Only a few people have found the page, though some did so by cheating. I fixed it so cheating isn't possible any longer, and it's no longer at the same place it was before.

If you find it, email me, and I'll send you something cool for free.

  1. Nice, Joe.

My kids found the new secret location, but I haven't yet.

The old secret location was a lot of fun, so I look forward to the new one.

  2. OK, I found it again. After my kids found it. Again. But I think I took a shortcut.

Do I still get free stuff?

How about if I post 44 times that I found it? Do I get free stuff then?

  3. I didn't find it. I got pretty far, but I didn't find it. I'm embarrassed to admit that. But next time writer's block sets in, I'll go look again.

I have an awful feeling that it's not hard to find. That's worries me.

  4. Okay, I found the old page. I guess I cheated for that...So I deserve no cool or free stuff.

    Um...am I overthinking it?

*note how everything else on Joe's post has gone right by me while I obsess over getting stalled in finding it the legit way*

  5. Joe,

I want some really cool free stuff, but I'm too lazy to spend time searching for it.

    Guess that makes me a...writer.

Can I have some really cool free stuff anyway?

No more snarks, I promise (with horns sprouting from my skull and fingers crossed behind my back).

    Love ya, dude.

  6. I'm stumped on a clue. It was fun while I lasted. =D

  7. I found it... now I need to stay up 15 minutes later writing to make up for the 15 minutes of goofing off.

  8. I got stumped on one part, but mostly because I had to leave the computer I was on. I'll continue the search though, but not tonight. :-)

  9. A tender Bouchercon moment with J.D. Rhoades.

Thanks, Joe. I thought you'd forgotten.

I was pining, man. Pining, do you hear?

  10. I'll never forget our Bouchercon, Dusty...

  11. Do I cheat (again? I still think I was fair with my multiple votes, theys just mad they didn't think of it first) or keep reading every page (I can FIND) of Joe's site?

Thou doth torture me so Joe.

Its because he wants me to read the books again.

  12. I read every page, Alphbeter. (And, yes, I am pissed that I didn't think to vote the way you did first.)

I read every page. I got to one clue and thought 'Ha! Verily I am looking for a keyword.'

I googled, I searched every page for a collection of words I was sure Joe wanted me to search for. I mean I searched his SOURCE CODE for clues. I'm thinking I missed something in his books that obliquely referred to that clue. (We all know what the clue is because those of us who haven't found the Secret Page are stumped there).

Then I come back here and find out that people's KIDS are finding this secret page, no problemo - others are sniffing it out in a mere 15 minutes.

Then I cheated, but Joe got ahead of us cheaters and all I found was the OLD Secret Page. The new secret page still eludes.

I never finished Zork either. A hundred years ago that was one of the first computer 'work out the mystery' game. (We're going back to 1985 or so here folks.)

Guess it's good that I don't work for the NSA.

  13. I refuse to admit just how much time I spent on finding the page.

Now having read the umm...'interesting' contents, I may need a slight brain scrub.

I will say that looking at the source code didn't help me because even after finding one of the clues, emailing for help, and reading EVERY SINGLE PAGE of Joe's site, it still took a literal bold smack for me to get to the end.

The super special reward had better be a really neat decoder ring that tells me Little Orphan Annie's code or I'm gonna shoot my eye out.

  14. You found the page, Alphabeter?

    *m.g. sidles over*

    Can we be friends?

Um...who'd you email for help? Joe? Did crying help? Groveling?

  15. Anyone suspected of sharing information about the Secret Page will get a spanking.

In fact, I may just start spanking people for the hell of it.
To find the secret page, you need to know where the clues are, and what the clues imply.

    Google may help.

I'd offer to help just for the fun of getting a spanking from Joe, but I think Maria would step in and uh, I'd be afraid.

Oddly enough, what he said is the help I got (though I'm not not saying from where I got it).

  17. Maybe this will help:

    http://www.jakonrath.com/CLUES.doc

    Or maybe not.

I'm thinking of adding this to the http://www.jakonrath.com/what.html page.

What do you guys think? Too easy? Too hard?

Joe, I did. I DID google. I used a THESAURUS. I checked every page for those words.

I even tried to make and ANAGRAM.

Anyone suspected of sharing information about the Secret Page will get a spanking.

Hmmm...it worries me that this is the best offer I've had all day.

Oddly enough, what he said is the help I got (though I'm not not saying from where I got it).

WHAT did Joe say that is WHAT help you got?

Use small words. I'm getting slower and slower about this.

Off to check out Joe's new clues...

  19. I think the clue I googled and googled is too hard.

    But I like a challenge.

  20. m.g. don't worry, I'm stuck there too. I was up til 2AM last night. It's friday....it may be sunday before I get to bed, but I'm going to find it this time!

  21. Bonnie,

I even got an extra clue from Joe. I thought, 'Aha! Now I'll get somewhere!'

Hope springs eternal. Haven't gotten anywhere yet. But I'll keep trying.

  22. Bribe Joe.

    He will help...kinda.

But he's really fun about it.

  23. I dunno, Alphabeter. I may have to get him really drunk. My IQ is slipping away over this secret page thing.

  24. Okay. I finally found it. Jeeze, was I thinking too hard about that or what?

Now I can go on with the rest of my life.

  25. Hi Joe, I came here by way of abennettstrong's LJ. The last clue was a good one, but not too hard. (Of course, I was thinking it was too hard till I found it.)

    Nicely done!

  26. I like the certificate. The individual thought to detail is so touching.

Thanks for the comment! Joe will get back to you eventually. :)
