Storm Front

Are you a faithful reader of this blog, but have yet to pick up one of my books?

Lance Storm insists that you change that behavior right now.

Lance is a pro wrestler who has a terrific Internet book club, which has featured many A-list mystery and thriller authors, including David Morrell, Lee Child, Janet Evanovich, F. Paul Wilson, among others.

The book club is interactive. Lance posts reader comments, and adds his own comments. The writer also gets to chip in.

For his first book of 2007, I'm honored that Lance has chosen Bloody Mary. Selected people who read the book and participate in the discussion can win free copies of Lance Storm DVDs and signed copies of my first novel, Whiskey Sour.

If you need more information, visit here:

http://www.stormwrestling.com/bookmarks/index.html

In fact, you should visit there even if you have already read my books. Lance is promoting literacy and recommending genre books, which is good for the world in general and writers in particular. He does this simply out of respect for the written word, and receives no monetary compensation or reward for his efforts. This is one seriously cool guy.

I'm thrilled to be a part of his club, and I encourage everyone reading this to spread the word about Lance Storm. Link to him. Blog about him. Tell your friends and neighbors. So many people in this industry are takers. He's one of the givers. Show your support.

A few days ago I read Origin and The List which I'd downloaded and printed. I absolutely see why Origin got you your agent. What's hard to understand is why The List didn't go to contract AND get a movie option. Sure, there are a couple of spots that might benefit from some editorial fine-tuning, but overall it's SO damn good! "Stunning debut" is what the critics would have said. Thank you for making these available for free. I'll be blogging about them tomorrow because you taught me a valuable lesson about this business. Free book = new fan.

Thanks Tosh and Mel.

Big Thanks to Joan! It's not vindication, but since posting The List and Origin I've gotten many compliments, and a lot of head scratches wondering why they didn't sell. Some emails were even filled with abject terror, the writers openly wondering how they could sell a book if these were turned down.

I've said it before--just ebcause something is publishable doesn't mean it will be published.

You have to have the right book in the right place at the right time.

If something doesn't sell, write something else.

Joe, I bought your last book and gave it to my mom. Does that count? She said, "It was pretty good. I'll probably buy his next one."

What?

Come on, Joe. Everyone knows wrestlers don't read.

Lance Storm! Dude, that rocks!

I want to see JA in a cage match!

P.S. I have all of your books (several copies of Bloody Mary, in fact). A better question is do you have a copy of Amber Page?

Okay, so I keep updating my quest to query 750 agents and editors for my novel The Colorado Sequence here. I hope the self-promotional angle of this isn't overbearing. Maybe it'll inspire a few people to send out queries themselves.

At any rate, I am up 250 agents that have been queried. Yesterday, I received 6 positive responses. 5 agents asked to see partials, one asked to see the full manuscript.

To help give the agents a better idea of the kind of novel The Colorado Sequence is

I've created this book trailer

I'm thinking I will include a CD with an MPG file of the trailer in the package to each agent who requests sample chapters.

The video concludes with "All Rights Available" so as to be equivocally clear about its status.

I will not self-publish The Colorado Sequence, until it has been rejected by 750 people.

As always, let me know your thoughts.

And remember, if I can query 750 agents and editors, you can query 750 agents and editors.

Spend five minutes on his book club page. Not only does Storm read, I'd bet good money he's smarter than you are. :)
