Not that she needs my help, but if you haven't checked out Tess's blog lately, she's finally entered the 21st Century and upgraded to a new look that allows readers to post comments.
Visit her at http://www.tessgerritsen.com/blog and say hello. Link to her too. Tess is a rarity in this profession: A bestseller who is gracious, generous, not the least bit conceited, and actually takes the time to interact with her fans.
And remember: No one tell her that she's entered a black hole that will absorb hours and hours of her writing time. Mum's the word.
Her recent post on "Hacks" is especially good.
ReplyDeleteI love Tess Gerritsen. Thanks for spreading the news, Joe.
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot! I have three books (Konrath-of course, Evanovitch and Kerley=all coming out with new books)to buy in June and you just added one more! Or maybe more then one more--since I have to catch up on her writing.
ReplyDeleteLooks like she writes a great book and her podcast got me hooked!
Thanks Joe!
Thanks Joe. I visited her site long ago and never went back since without the comments it was just a plain ol' boring static site.
ReplyDeleteI sent her an email once and she wrote back within a few hours. I couldn't believe it. She's down to earth, a great writer and a snappy dresser too based on her photo from the awards ceremony.
ReplyDeleteJoe... yes, she has a comment feature - but it asks you to "sign in" to comment... and I don't quite know what username/password it expects me to use!!
ReplyDeleteJR
I heart Tess Gerritsen.
ReplyDeleteAnd now, to move completely off-topic -- hey, JA; if you have time, I gots a question for ya.
My application has been approved for the '06 NYC Pitch & Shop Conference sponsored by Algonkian(and if they just approve everyone who applies, don't tell me; I'm enjoying my bubble). It's a tight squeeze finance-wise for me, but I'm going.
The question I have is: do you think it's worth it? I mean, the odds of getting published these days are astronomical. Would something like this improve those odds, or might I just as well withdraw the cash and set fire to the bills, and implant some false memories about NYC and hotel rooms and throwing back a cold one with high-falutin' editors?
Just wondering what your take is. :-)
Algonkian is a good conference, and well worth your money. A face to face meeting is worth a hundred query letters, plus you'll learn a lot.
ReplyDeleteRefer to my previous blogs and my writing tips on my website for info on how to pitch.
Sweet, a hundred query letters in one shot! Lesse, that's 100 stamps at 39 cents each ($39) plus printing out 100 letters ($5 - $10, depending), plus sample chapters and/or synopses (more money) and gas to drive to the post office, and the cost of envelopes...
ReplyDeleteAnd I get to go to New York too.
Thanks, JA -- I'll look up how to pitch. 'Preciate the reply!
She is a wonderful writer and she has an open mind, heart and spirit. I love reading her blog and it teaches me something everytime I read through it... Kinda like this blog right here.
