Stirred

This November 22, the final Jack Daniels novel is being released on Kindle.

STIRRED, co-written with Blake Crouch, also concludes his Luther Kite/Andrew Z. Thomas series (Desert Places, Locked Doors, Break You).

We'd like to launch STIRRED with a lot of early Amazon reviews. So earlier I put out a call for reviewers.

And we got quite a few. So many that we have to stop taking requests, because we can't fulfill them all. Thanks all who responded.

Now here are some quick facts about Stirred.

Q: Do I have to have a Kindle to read Stirred?

A: No. You can download Kindle aps for your computer or phone, and read it that way.

Q: What about for paper readers?

A: That version won't be released until February.

Q: Do I need to have read your earlier books?

A: No. Stirred can be read and enjoyed without any knowledge of our previous titles.

Q: Is Stirred being released on Kindle only?

A: Yes. But it is DRM-free, so it can be easily ported to any format.

Q: What is Stirred about?

A: Lt. Jacqueline "Jack" Daniels has seen humanity at its most depraved and terrifying. She's lost loved ones. Come close to death countless times. But she always manages to triumph over evil. Luther Kite is humanity at its most depraved and terrifying. He's committed unthinkable acts. Taken human life for the sheer pleasure of it. He is a monster among monsters, and no one has ever caught him. Each is the best at what they do. Peerless. Unmatched.

Until now...

In Luther's experience, people are weak. Even the strong and fearless break too easily. He wants a challenge, and sets his depraved sights on Jack. But with a baby on the way, Jack is at her most vulnerable. She's always been a fighter, but she's never had so much to fight for. So he's built something especially for Jack. His own, private ninth circle of hell--a nightmare world in a forgotten place, from which no one has ever escaped.

It's J.A. Konrath's greatest heroine versus Blake Crouch's greatest villain in Stirred, the stunning conclusion to both Konrath's Lt. Jacqueline "Jack" Daniels thriller series and Crouch's Andrew Z. Thomas series.

Only one can survive. And it won't be whom you think.

Q: How do I get Stirred?

A: You can preorder it on Amazon. Right now it is $2.99. The price may go up soon.

Q: Why might the price go up?

A: I've seen enough evidence to show that $2.99 may not be the ideal price point for ebooks. A slightly higher price can earn more money, while still being a bargain for readers.

Q: Is this really the last Jack Daniels book?

A: Yes.

Q: Does Jack die?

A: Several characters die. You'll have to read the book to find out if Jack is among them.

Alas, no Kindle, but I'll read the book. Loved how he let Jack live at the end of the last one; heroin for the heroine!

One quick *important* miss... ePub files can be read on any computer too, with a free download of Adobe Digital Editions, or other such desktop reader. -Steve

Actually, you wouldn't need an eReader. You can download Kindle for PC for free and read it on your computer. (Not sure if it works on Mac, though.)

Its technically called the 'Kindle Cloud Reader.' IMHO the software needs a little work (it keeps losing 'pinned books' from my Chrome browser).

It is available from the browsers that properly support the HTML5 standard: Chrome, Safari, and Firefox. Microsoft tried to do their own thing with explorer...

Since Safari is supported, it works on a mac (I have friends who have used it.) Great idea, but like I said, the software drops preferences which gets old fast. its perfect if you read one book at a time though.

Sent. Thanks for the offer, looking forward to more Konrath and Crouch.

Long awaited announcement, shame you tainted it with your hostile tone...;)

First, congratulations to you for publishing your book!

Some comments suggest you can download Kindle for PC and read novels on computers, but I wonder if they have experienced it firsthand?

Some friends who have tried to buy my books have been put off by the barrage of ads for Kindle readers that confront them when they try to do this. Maybe they've given up too easily, but it has cost me sales. I wonder if this is standard for people who are putting off getting ereaders but can't wait to buy some of these ebooks coming out.

Good deal Joe, I'm looking forward to it.

@Rebecca

Convert to epub, if no DRM, and read on Adobe Reader on PC. No ads.

@All

Baby lives; villain and Jack die.

Bets anyone? It'll be a super rough ride if the end if so. Definitely worth a look.

Cannot wait to read this. I buzzed through the last Jack book in a single sitting. Cannot wait, yet don't want it to happen.

If we received an email from Blake,do we need to re-request a preview copy at the new address too, Joe?

I think it's great you offer it without DRM protection. That gets so annoying being a Nook owner. Can't wait to check it out.

If you requested a copy and haven't gotten it yet, email Blake again.

Just in time for Christmas.

I love Jack. Read a really creepy scene yesterday on my lunch and jumped about a foot off my chair when somebody at work approached me.

I have several left to read but I'll be sad when I reach the end of the last Jack book :(

Tweeted. :) Congratulations to both of you for coming to the end of a series. I'm sure it's a little bittersweet.

I'm a Nook person, but I held the $79 Kindle in my hands at Target the other day. Oh dear. It's SO light. I might become a dual adopter.

But I'll happily read it in the Cloud until then.

What price are you thinking of bumping your books to if I might ask? $2.99 through $5.50 seems to a price point many readers are willing to buy from. If your novels were $4.99, I'd buy 'em without thinking twice. Thank the gods I have most of them already and am only missing *most* of the JD series but I don't mind paying higher.

Professional covers, professional formatting, and editing aren't cheap. You need to pass these costs on to the consumers as corporations do it all the time but just don't price us out please. I would still consider paying $4.99 for your books a bargain. ;-)

Speaking of, $2.99 isn't thrilling me with my latest. I hate to be schizo but a friend of mine has her latest offered for $3.99 and I think that is what I plan to offer mine at as well (we are in the same genre so it's no biggie plus I just made one of novelettes free so that off-sets the cost of revenue lost from that one). ;-)

It won't be WHO you think. "Who" is referring back to the ambiguous "it," which is a subject, not an object.

Sorry. That bugged me since the rest of it was so tight.
